Visitor Info & Driving Directions

A visit to Joseph Priestley House begins in our Visitor Center with an introductory exhibit.  You can also pay for a tour.  On the tour  a docent will guide you onto the property to visit  the Pond Building and its Joseph Priestley Timeline Exhibit.  You will also view a 10-minute orientation video that depicts the life and achievements of Joseph Priestley. This is followed by the guided tour of Priestley’s manor house and laboratory.   Overall this usually takes 40 minutes.  At the conclusion of the tour visitors can shop in the museum store.  To watch a tour of Priestley House as an episode of local cable TV show, In Your Neighborhood with Jennifer Wakeman, click here.

Guided tours begin on the hour from at 1, 2 and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday afternoon (except Easter) from mid- March until the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

Group tours at other dates and times can be arranged with advance notice.

Hours and programs subject to change. Call ahead to confirm tour times.

Two picnic tables are available on the grounds for the convenience of visitors.

Driving Directions

From PA Turnpike and Harrisburg International Airport

Priestley House is approximately 60 miles north via I-283 N, I-83N, I-81S, US 22W and US 11-15 N.

From Interstate  80

Travel south on PA Route 147 to Northumberland, then north on US Route 11 for three blocks; follow the signs.

From US Route 11

Travel north in Northumberland, one block north of the junction with PA Route 147 South; follow the signs.

From PA Route 147 North

Turn right on Priestley Avenue (first street after crossing the North Branch of the Susquehanna River); follow the signs.
